Mr. William Oliver Melvin "Billy" age 102, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020. Graveside services with Military Honors were held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Lance Fendley officiated the service.
Mr. Melvin was born September 25, 1917 in Fitzgerald, GA. He was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Melvin and the late Callie Mae Oliver Melvin McCook. As a young man during the depression, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps under Franklin Roosevelt. He was a United State Army WWII Veteran. He joined the Army on March 27, 1941 as a member of the 945th Field Artillery Battalion. While serving in Europe, he was injured when a truck was hit and went down an embankment. He broke his back, left arm and left ankle. He was taken to England and hospitalized for an entire year. He was later flown to a hospital in Daytona, Fl where he was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946. Mr. Melvin owned a Tv and radio repair business
