Virgil Homer Chambliss Jr.

Mr. Virgil Homer Chambliss, Jr. age 73 passed away early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga. Rev. Jeremy Shoulta officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening April 23, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. other times the family residence 408 North Bond Street Plains, Ga.      Mr. Chambliss was born December 23, 1940 in Americus the son of the late Virgil Homer Chambliss, Sr. and Sara Shierling Chambliss.  Mr. Chambliss attended Valdosta State University and was an avid basketball player.  He was retired from CSX and Seaboard Railroad Companies after forty years as a conductor, was a member of UTU Railroad Union and served in the National Guard for several years, was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church      Mr. Chambliss is survived by his beloved wife Sue Turner Chambliss of Plains, Ga.
