Thomas Bernard Wylie
October 4, 1940 — August 15, 2026
Thomas Bernard Wylie, 85, of Panama City Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026 surrounded by family.
Thomas, known to most as Tom or Tommy, was born October 4, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Thomas and Natalyn Wylie. He was raised in Bolton, Tennessee, and attended Bolton High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before returning to build a career in dentistry, running his own dental practice until retiring in 2011.
Tom married the love of his life, Edwina Osborn Wylie, on August 23, 1964, in Bolton, TN. They remained in TN until Tom graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in 1969. Then, the two moved to Americus, GA where they made their home and raised their family for more than 50 years. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Americus, where he taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon, participated in mission trips, and chaperoned youth trips. In later years, Tom and Edwina moved to Panama City Beach, Florida, where he became a member of First Baptist Church.
When he wasn't caring for his patients, Tom could be found on the golf course with a friend, tending to his plants and flowers, or tackling the next home improvement project. He took great pride and joy in growing and building things throughout his life.
Anyone who knew Tom knew he always had an answer ready for any question and usually a piece of advice to go with it, whether you'd asked for one or not. He carried a steady, unshakeable confidence that he knew the way to do just about anything, and he was generous with sharing that wisdom with family, friends, and the occasional stranger who happened to be standing nearby. Above all, he loved the Lord with all his heart and shared his faith throughout his life. Much of the conviction he brought to everything else grew out of his faith. It was simply his way of showing he cared. Those who knew him and loved him best learned to smile, take the advice, and love him all the more for it.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Edwina Wylie; daughter Jennifer Roush and her husband, David Roush; son Reid Wylie and his wife, Jessica Wylie; grandchildren Camille Horne, Genie Jordan and her husband, Logan Jordan, Hattie Wylie, Alice Wylie, and Natalyn Wylie; great-granddaughters Eleanor Jordan and Linley Jordan; his sister, Jan Daniels of Weatherford, Texas; along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Natalyn Wylie.
A service celebrating Tom's life will be held at 11:00 AM on September 12, 2026, at Aldridge Funeral Home in Americus, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Tom's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
