Mr. Shawn Anthony Banks

Mr. Shawn Anthony Banks, age 54, of Preston, passed away Friday, August 1, 2025 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Shawn was born November 11, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of the late, Dave Banks and Janet Lee Graff Grimes, whom survives. Shawn obtained a Master's Degree in Social Administration. He was a former Police Officer with the Americus Police Department, a former Corrections Director with the Sumter Youth Detention Center and was currently employed as a middle school Science Teacher with the Southwest Georgia STEM Charter School. In addition to his mother, Shawn is survived by his wife, Teresa Anne Jones Banks of Preston; a daughter, Savanna Banks of Columbus, GA and a brother, Chris Grimes and sister in law; Kimberly of Dallas, GA. The family has requested memorial contribution be made to Paws Humane Society 4900 Milgen Road, Columbus, GA 31907. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
