Mrs. Sarah Josephine McKay Roush was born December 18, 1925, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late William Donald McKay and Lynn Mathis McKay. She died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Americus on July 18, 2014. Three brothers and two sisters, Donald Mathis McKay, James Edward McKay, Wright McKay, Martha Stovall, and Annette McKay Sullivan, and one niece, Mikie McKay Dupree, preceded her in death. She was the granddaughter of the late Professor J.E. Mathis, superintendent of the Americus Schools for 50 years and former Mayor of Americus, and Carrie Rylander Mathis.
Sarah Jo grew up in Americus, where she was baptized at Calvary Episcopal Church, and graduated from Americus High School. She moved back to Fitzgerald and later moved to Mobile, AL, where she lived for many years.
