Russell Graddy Surles

Russell Graddy Surles, 79, of Richland, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Russell was born on September 14, 1946, to the late T.L. and Verdie Surles. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Aimee Surles; his brother, Tommy Surles; and his sister, Madge Baker.

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judy Dacus Surles; his children, Ritchie (Christie) McCarley, Casi (Brian) Harris, Nikki (Justin) Wells, and Ben (Shelly) Wells. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan Warren, Baylor McCarley, Caroline McCarley, and Callie Anna Harris; and his great-grandchild, Waverly Warren. Russell was a proud Papa who took great joy in spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Russell is also survived by his siblings, Michael Surles, Dan Surles, and Judy Johnson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell was a Sergeant (E-5) in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. He received his 50-year pin and apron from Smith Lodge #85 F & AM in 2023. He was retired from Iron Workers Local Union 387 and was a member and deacon of Macedonia Baptist Church.

A skilled welder, Russell was the owner of Surles Welding & Equipment Company since 1987. He was a man defined by his strong work ethic and generosity, qualities he proudly instilled in his family.

Helping others wasn’t something Russell talked about—it was how he lived. He met life’s challenges with courage, humor, and grace, often making light of difficult situations and finding ways to make others laugh when they needed it most. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.
