Mary Sibyl McHugh McGlaun, 93, of Richland, Georgia passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Magnolia Manor, in Americus, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s. Sibyl was born in Walton County on November 19, 1931, to the late William Elmer McHugh and the late Mary Ella Malcom McHugh. On the day of her high school graduation from Richland High, she crossed the street and married her one and only love, Stewart Akin McGlaun. They were married for 34 years before his untimely death in 1985.

Sibyl became the first manager of the Georgia Welcome Center in Plains, Georgia, and retired after a 20 year career. During her time there, she traveled extensively around the United States representing the State of Georgia. Sibyl was a National Flower Show Judge Emeritus and served in various roles with the Garden Club of Georgia for over twenty-five years. As an avid Horticulturist, she achieved the role of Landscape Design Emeritus Consultant. Sibyl was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Thornateeska Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter 140 of the Daughters of the Confederacy.

Sibyl is survived by her three children: Michael Allen McGlaun (Sandra) of Richland, Jan McGowan (Dan) of Americus, and Judith Joseph (Paul) of Valdosta, GA. She is also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Melissa Jernigan (Luke), Ashley Futch (Jonathan), Stewart Joseph, Maggie Davis (Justin), Wesley Joseph (Summer), and Mollie McGowan. In addition, Sibyl’s legacy includes her great grandchildren, Ella and Reed Jernigan, Cade and Carter Futch, Jace and Mila Davis, Weston Joseph, and Livi and Avery James Joseph. Sibyl is also survived by nieces Kay Bonner Retterbush, Beth Bonner Lockhart (Karl) and nephew Donald Bonner (Teresa).

Sibyl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister and brother-in-law Jane and Donald Bonner.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Harmony Cemetery 763 Ponder St. in Richland. Rev. Michael McGlaun will officiate the service. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff of Magnolia Manor Assisted Living Home, in Americus, as well as Gentiva Hospice of Americus.
