Martha Hunter (Marshall) Dykes

Ms. Martha Hunter Marshall Dykes age 96 died Friday October 10th at her residence.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday October 13, 2014 graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Jim Smith and Rev. Bill Dupree will officiate. The family will receive friends at The Carnegie 111 South Jackson St. Americus following the graveside service.      Ms. Dykes was born November 23, 1917 in Americus, daughter of the late Thomas Oliver Marshall Sr. and the late Mattie Hunter Marshall. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of Georgia for over 65 years and was recently recognized for her years of service. She was also a member of the Junior Service League, the Sumter Historical Society and avid supporter of the Sumter County Humane Society.  Ms. Dykes was an avid Bridge player and traveled extensively throughout her life.      Survivors include her youngest daughter Fran Hunter Dykes of Atlanta, two granddaughters Fran Nelson Whitaker and husband Barney of...
