Ms. Katron Gray Moon, 92 of Americus, passed away peacefully Saturday evening October 25, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center following an extended illness. She will be buried with military honors at Andersonville National Cemetery on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at noon with the Reverend Wendy Peacock of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Family and friends may also pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the morning before the funeral
A native of Americus, Ms. Moon was born March 1, 1922. Her parents were Herbert Watson Moon, Sr. and Ruth Britton Moon. A graduate of Americus High School, she excelled as a basketball player. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy W.A.V.E. program during World War II where she became a petty officer and telegrapher, serving in Washington D.C. and San Diego, California.
