Joseph Eugene Perry

September 24, 1937 — May 15, 2026

Mr. Joseph “J.E.” Eugene Perry, age 88, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 15, 2026. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. William Hall and Rev. Damon Fountain will officiate the service.

J.E. was born on September 24, 1937, in Americus, Georgia, to the late Aris and Elizabeth Pouncey Perry Dew. He was a hardworking man from the very beginning of his life’s journey, taking his first job at Piggly Wiggly at just thirteen years old. Through the years, he faithfully provided for his family while working with Colonial, RIO’s, and later with the Cancel on Aging, where he lovingly delivered meals and served members of his community with kindness and compassion.

One of the greatest blessings of his life began in high school when he met the love of his life, Peggy Anne . The two were married the July before their senior year, and J.E. immediately stepped into the role of provider so Peggy Anne could finish school. Together, they built a beautiful life side by side and shared more than seventy treasured years of marriage filled with love, faith, laughter, and devotion to family.

J.E. dearly loved being surrounded by the people he cherished most. He found joy in being a husband, daddy, granddaddy, uncle, and friend. He was deeply drawn to the beautiful traditions of string music and family gatherings, where memories were made and love was shared. Music was woven into the fabric of his life, and he proudly played with several bands through the years including Traditional Sounds, Shiloh Boys, Gospel Strings, and Calvary’s Cross. Whether playing guitar, bass, or simply picking with friends on the porch, J.E.’s music brought people together. He felt honored to teach anyone who wanted to learn and always had time to encourage others to play. He especially loved attending Blue Grass festivals and spending time with family and friends enjoying the fellowship those gatherings brought.

J.E. also enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching the Atlanta Braves, spending evenings watching Gunsmoke, and had a longtime appreciation for guns and knives. He enjoyed trips to Chick-fil-A where he could drink coffee, sit and talk with friends and family, and catch up on the day’s happenings. One of the highlights of his week was Tuesday Bingo, a tradition he absolutely loved and always looked forward to.

J.E. was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church and later Calvary Baptist Church, where he lived out his faith with a humble and loving spirit.

In addition to his faithful and devoted wife, Peggy Anne Perry, he is survived by his daughters, Jeannie Martin of Americus and Janet Weaver (Dwain) of Albany; his sister, Julie Fairbrother; one sister-in-law; one cherished grandchild; two beloved great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

In addition to his parents, J.E was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Perry.
