John “Mercer” Moore, Jr. age 86, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 8, 2026. A funeral service celebrating Mercer’s legacy will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 13th, 2026 in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services. A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 1:00 P.M until service time. A private internment will take place at a later date.
John Mercer Moore, Jr. was born on October 19, 1939 to the late John Mercer Moore “Doc”, Sr. and Myrtle Florence Moore. Mercer was known for many things, His Faith, his mechanical skills, his playful spirit and his love for his family. He was a diesel mechanic, not just any diesel mechanic, one of the best Mack mechanics in the South East. He was always willing to help friends and family when it came to mechanics. He was also a Deacon for Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church in Preston.
Mercer is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Catherine Moore. Along with his children; Lynne Colley (Allen), Teressa Allen (Phillip), Greg Moore (Jennifer) and Scott Moore (Kristi). His memory will be cherished by his eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters; Doris Mathis (Jim) and Becky Pearson (Hart), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was greeted in Heaven by his sister, Betty Garrett, along with his brothers; Wesley Allen Moore and Steve Moore, and his grandson Colton Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Gentiva Hospice (Gentiva Foundation Online).
