Joe Monroe Buchanan, Jr.

Mr. Joe Monroe “JM” Buchanan, Jr., age 86 of Plains passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on April 7, 2026. No services are scheduled at this time.

JM was born on July 3, 1939 to the late Joe and Ruby Buchanan. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting or fishing. He was very talented at wood working. He retired from Manhattan Shirt Company as assistant manager and was able to enjoy more time outside and with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Toms Buchanan. His daughters, Tammy White (David) of Plains, GA, and Donna Compton (Jamie) of Lula, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Earline Cox (Jack) of Plains, GA and his sister-in-law Francis Buchanan. He will be cherished by his three grandchildren; Michaela Simmons, Tyler White, and Erin Compton and his two great-grandchildren Elijah Simmons, and Lydia Simmons.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, J C Buchanan.
