Mr. James Lee Usry, (88) a former resident of Americus where he was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a retired City-Superintendent of 41 years, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Northside Hospital in Lawrenceville, Ga. Last year he and his wife, Thelma of 61 years, moved from Americus to Gwinnett county to be near their daughter.
James, fondly known as Jim, was born to Dick and Gladys Usry on January 8, 1935 in Lee County. He was a talented musician who loved to bring a smile to others when he played with various blue-grass gospel groups through the years. Spending times with his grandsons and teaching them life skills from the "Old School" was always a favorite pastime of his as well.
Jim is survived by his wife Thelma, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Brian Perdue. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and J.W.
