Mr. James Marvin Nation

James “Marvin” Nation stepped into heaven on April 18, 2025 after a lengthy but valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Americus, Ga and lived most of his life there until 2018 when he went to live with his only daughter and her family in Cartersville, Ga. A graveside service will be held at Lebanon Cemetery in Plains, GA at 11:30 A.M on Friday, April 25, 2025. Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate the service. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery. Marvin was a graduate of Americus High School Class of 1958 where he played football and served as a Senior Class Officer. He attended and graduated from Auburn University in 1962 and was a proud supporter and loyal fan until his death. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Marvin also graduated from the LSU School of Banking. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Army until his honorable discharge in 1969. Marvin was a banker and served the citizens of Sumter Co, Ga for many years ending his career as Senior Vice President of Citizens Bank of Americus. He was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church, and a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Americus Jaycees. Marvin had a dry wit and quiet demeanor. He enjoyed reading his Bible and sharing prayers with those who visited with him. He loved to take a drive and see the sights especially enjoying time in the fall when the colors of the leaves would change. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he enjoyed many trips with his best friend, Pete. He loved a good fish fry and southern home cooking. He was a proud Father and Grandfather. He was a loyal son to his Mother, Mrs. Dorothy, in her final years. He enjoyed watching old movies and the History Channel and often shared stories of his time in Vietnam and on the football field at Americus High School. He remained close with many school buddies speaking to them on the phone and reminiscing. Survivors include his daughter, Heather Lane Nation Pasley (Ronny) of Cartersville, Ga., his grandsons, Ross Nation Pasley and James Rhett Pasley (Taylor) and his only granddaughter, Anna Lane Pasley all of Cartersville, Ga. He is also survived by his cousins, Jimmy(Diana) Skipper and Wray(Elaine) Skipper of Americus, Luellen(Richard) Webb of St. Simons, Ga, his brother in law, Tom Kirbo, his nephews and niece, Tommy Kirbo, Dorothy(John) McCranie, and Cliff(Holly) Kirbo of Moultrie, Ga., his Sister in law, Martha Ann(Mike) Fennessy of Plains, Ga. and Brother in Law, Jim(Lucy)Sewell of Hazelhurst, Ga. He was preceded in death by his Father, James Clifford Nation, his Mother, Yona Dorothy Skipper Nation, his wife, Ruth Lane Sewell Nation, his sister, Ruth Nation Kirbo, and his best friend and fishing buddy, James “Pete” Arrington.
