James Burton Lovelace

James Burton Lovelace, of Americus, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life on August 2, 2026, two days before his 84th birthday.

Born on August 4, 1942, in Anderson, Indiana, James was the third child and only son of Doyle and Ruby Lovelace. He graduated from Highland High School in Anderson, Indiana in 1962 and proudly served in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. James joined the Indiana National Guard in 1975 and completed training as a U.S. Army practical nurse specialist in 1976. He worked most of his career with and retired from General Motors.

James’ greatest joy was knowing and growing in his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devout Christian who loved to study the Bible and talk to others about the love of God. James enjoyed a marriage of 38 years with his wife Kathleen. He delighted in the wonders of creation and enjoyed walks in nature and visits to the mountains. Hobbies he enjoyed during his life included camping, photography, and poetry. He loved music and art that expressed Christian themes and the beauty of creation. James enjoyed serving others through his church, Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, and the communities of faith he was involved in over the years of his life.

James was preceded in death by his parents Doyal and Ruby Lovelace and by his sisters, Betty Bowers and Arlene Tupps. James is survived by his wife Kathleen, by his sons Evan, Eric, and James, by his stepdaughter Sheila Daniel and stepson Patrick Daniel, by his grandchildren Nelson, Sam, Landon, Jude, Caleb, Joelle, Clara, Maccabee, and Christopher (Danielle), and by his great grandchildren, Liam, Avery, Jireh, Miriam, Nolan, and Elijah. He is also survived by his sister Paula Burton and by his nephews Neil Bowers, Chris Tupps, Kevin Tupps, and Rex Burton.

The family will host a graveside service, led by Pastor Randy Saye, by James’ eldest son, Evan, and with words by his son’s Eric and James and music by his grandson Caleb. The service will be at Buena Vista Cemetery, 4th Avenue, Buena Vista, GA, 31803 at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “St. Andrews Presbyterian Church,” for/to the attention of “James B Lovelace Memorial” and mailed to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 6343, Americus, GA 31709.
