Mr. James Thurston Clary

James Thurston Clary, age 65, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Central Baptist Church. Rev. Al Crumpton, Rev. Stephen Fripp and Rev. Steve Golden will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at Central Baptist Church. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers; Steve Lashley, Donnie McCrary, Jim Covington, Chris Toms, Joshua Toms, Bobby Pilcher, Kenny Phillips and Buster Pilcher. The Rotary Club and the Pool Peeps will be honorary pallbearers. James Thurston Clary was born April 3, 1959 in Sandersville, Georgia. He was the son of the late James Hunter Clary and the late Christine Amerson Clary. Thurston worked in broadcasting his entire working career. He was employed with Sumter Broadcasting Company WISK for more than 40 years and was truly the voice of Sumter County. He was an active member of the Americus Rotary Club, where he served as President, Club Secretary, Club Public Image Chair, Assistant District Governor and District Disaster Relief Chair. Thurston also served as a Board member of the Booster Club at South Georgia Technical College and Ambassador of the Wreaths Across America. Thurston shared his love of music by DJing for many weddings, high school proms, class or family reunions and events. He was a true servant of Sumter County, if you needed help no matter what, he would find a way to make it happen. He was the best Rotary Mentor and best DJ anyone could ask for. He was member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Gail Cromer Clary of Americus; his son Jason Daryl Wisham of Americus, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins including Peggy Lynn Toms of Americus.
