Howard Eugene Davis

Jul 22, 1941 — Jul 6, 2026

Americus

Mr. Howard Eugene “Gene” Davis, Age 84, of Americus, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on

Monday, July 6, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026 in the Chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. A

graveside service will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church

Cemetery. Rev. William Hall, Rev. Mike Truitt, and Scott Norton will

officiate.

Gene was born on July 22, 1941, in Preston, Georgia, to the late Joseph

and Julia Davis. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wilburn

Davis, Harry Davis, Clarence Davis, and his sisters, Mary McClung,

Tina Rushing, and Dorothy Tanner.

He spent most of his life in Americus, where he faithfully served his

family, church, and community. Gene retired after 36 years with

American General Insurance Company (formerly Gulf Life Insurance).

In retirement, he continued serving others through his work with

Aldridge Funeral Services, where he became a cherished member of

their family.

A gifted self-taught guitarist, Gene dedicated his musical talents to

glorifying the Lord. Through his singing and guitar playing, he touched

countless lives as a member of The Servants Quartet and Calvary's

Cross. His faith was the foundation of his life, and at Calvary Baptist

Church, he faithfully served as both a deacon and music director, using

his gifts to lead others in worship and praise.

Above all, Gene was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud

Nan-Daddy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For

sixty-seven years, he shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife,

Mary, whom he treasured deeply. He loved his children with

unwavering gentleness, kindness, and affection, and he found

immeasurable joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in every opportunity to love, encourage, and, of course, spoil

them.

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Norton Davis; his son, Jeff

Davis of Naples, Florida; his daughters, Vickie Douglas (Robert) of

Smithville, Georgia, and Mary Helen Roberson of Ranger, Georgia; four

grandchildren, Rob Douglas (Parker), Jon Douglas, Julia Roberson, and

Cothran Roberson; and three great-grandchildren, Rett Douglas, Louis

Douglas, and Lily Grace Knight.

He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Roberts of Waycross, Georgia; his

brother, Stout Davis (Deborah) of Albany, Georgia; his sister-in-law,

Diane McClung (Johnnie); and his brothers-in-law, Jimmy Norton

(Carol), David Norton (Joyce), and J.B. Norton, along with numerous

nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will

forever cherish his memory.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Phoebe Sumter

Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Gene and

his family during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoebe

Sumter Hospice, 126 E. Furlow Street, Americus, GA 31709.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the
