Mr. Herman Driver, age 87, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6th visitation starts at 9:00 a.m. funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.


Born on November 21, 1938, in Blakely, Georgia, Herman was the son of the late Frank Thomas Driver and Alice Nobles Driver. Preceded in death by his siblings Billy Driver, Dan Driver (infant), Agnes Daniels, and Tommie Jean Ingram.


A lifelong farmer in Sumter County, Herman dedicated his life to the land he loved. He faithfully cultivated cotton, peanuts, soybeans, corn, tomatoes, and peppers. He will be remembered for his homemade pepper sauce, his strong worth ethic, and his willingness to help others that earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew.


Herman was a graduate of Union High School in Leslie, Georgia. He honorably served his country for six years in the United States Army Reserve stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.


On August 27, 1963, Herman married the love of his life, Virginia Smith Driver. Together they shared over 62 wonderful years of marriage, building a home filled with faith, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another and their family.


He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Smith Driver; his Aunt Emma Jean Raper; his siblings, Peggy Holley, and James “Bubba” Driver; children, Herman Thomas Driver, Jr. of Americus, Vickie Wainwright of Norman Park, Dawn Ammons (Christian Stuart)of Ellaville, and Chris Driver of Americus; his grandchildren, Sean Wainwright (Hannah) of Ellaville, Abbie Tucker (Kevin) of Norman Park, Ryan Driver (Emily) of Americus, and Adison Ammons of Ellaville; his great-grandchildren, Wyatt Wainwright, Ruby Wainwright, Kaleb Tucker, Cameron Tucker, Carter Tucker, Kyle Tucker, and Mark Tucker; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.


Those who knew Herman will remember his quick wit, honesty, and kind heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Despite those hobbies, his greatest joy came from being with his family; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the pride of his life. He cherished every moment spent with each of them.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crisp Regional Hospice & Palliative Care or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.


Herman leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, kindness, and deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in the fields he tended, the family he cherished, the stories he told, and the countless lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his example and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
