Mr. Hearde Eugene “Gene” Davis, age 70, of Athens, Ga, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 24, 2026 after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, 11:00 A.M in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Rev. Sam Maves will officiate the services. The family will accept friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Gene was born on September 4, 1955 to the late Lewis Keim Davis and Anne Wilson Davis of Andersonville. He was a graduate of Southland Academy, and Georgia Southwestern State University. He pursued his graduate studies at the University of Georgia.
He worked as a chemist at USDA, Russell Research Center in Athens, Georgia until he retired in 2018. While, he resided in Athens for many years, he thought of his “home” as South Georgia.
Gene will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him. He was known for his kindness, generosity, compassion, and love. He enjoyed sailing on Lake Hartwell, woodworking, flying model airplanes, baking and gardening.
He is survived by his sister, Sandra D. Daniel (Skeeter), nephews; Davis Daniel (Meghan) and Logan Daniel (Courtney). His great nephews and nieces; James Daniel, Elle Daniel, Wesley Daniel, Brooks Daniel, Blakely Daniel. His devoted companion for many years, Peggy Feldner. Along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, John Davis.
The following gentlemen have been called as active pallbearers: Davis Daniel, Logan Daniel, Jerry Owen, Michael Saunders, James A Peek, Jr., Mark Blankenship, T.L Wilson, Phil Hart, Chip Hart and Phil Aenchbacher. Honorary pallbearers will be: Hal Mifflin, Bill Johnson, Walt Wingard and Leverette Banks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sweet Olive Farm Animal Rescue (SOFAR) at 855 Parkview Road Winterville, GA 30683.
