Georgiann Mathis Wishard

Oct 17, 1933 — Jul 16, 2026

Mrs. Georgiann Mathis Wishard, age 92, of Smithville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Eubanks officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins.

Born on October 17, 1933, in Oglethorpe, Georgia, Georgiann was the daughter of the late Harvey Mathis and Louella Tidd Mathis. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Education and began her career teaching at Plains High School. After several years in the classroom, she devoted herself to her greatest calling—her family.

Georgiann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with those she loved. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment shared with them. She was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, unwavering love for her family, and steadfast faith. A faithful member of Hebron Baptist Church, she lived her life with grace, compassion, and quiet strength.

Georgiann deeply treasured the many friendships that enriched her life. She shared a love of antiques and countless happy adventures with Frances Irlbeck. Her lifelong friendship with Wynelle Sciple remained a constant source of joy and encouragement, enduring through the years despite the miles between them.

She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Samantha “Samye” and Mike Waldal of Smithville; her beloved grandchildren, Lauren Fox (Chase), Kristin Waldal, and Madison Brown (Corey); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Olivia Fox and Sawyer Fox.

In addition to her parents, Georgiann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Malcolm Wishard, Sr.; her son, James Malcolm “Mac” Wishard; her sisters, June Gentry, Frances Kirby, and Madge Rouse; and her brother, Joe Mathis.

Though she will be deeply missed, Georgiann’s legacy of love, faith, kindness, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Hebron Baptist Church.
