On March 12, our sweet loving Dorothy Smith Stanford slept way peacefully into the arms of Jesus. She was the daughter of James and Jane Smith and was held in gracious love by those in her Smith Family.
Dorothy Smith Stanford was born in January 1920, the youngest of seven. She was the widow of Amos Grady Stanford from Lee County Georgia. Dorothy and Grady raised a son, and two daughters, Grady "Buddy" (Barbara) Stanford of Pittsburg, TX, Caroline (Tony) Adams of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Jessie (Bob)Ferguson of Navarre, FL. She had seven grandchildren; Shane and Drew Adams, Jason and Mark Ferguson, Ronza, Makala, and Quinn Stanford as well as thirteen great-grandchildren for all of whom she made personal quilts.
Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and made clothes for many women in Lee County. As a quilter with a fine hand, she won Blue Ribbons at State Fairs. Dorothy was also a fine cook who sold cakes during the holidays. She was active in the Manhattan Retirees Club. She was a member of...
