Col. Alvin Hoyt Bowles

Colonel Alvin Hoyt Bowles, age 96, of 904-A Moore Circle, Americus, GA passed away surrounded by family and friends at his residence on December 22, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, 797 Memorial Drive, Griffin, GA 30223 at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Reverend Hugh DeLoach and Reverend Bryan Myers will officiate. Colonel Alvin Hoyt Bowles was born August 30, 1920 in Newnan, GA. He graduated from the University of Maryland. He then attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina, where he received a master's degree. Other accomplishments include graduating from the Army Command and General Staff College, the Chemical Corps Advanced Class, and other army schools. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with 3 oak leaf clusters and the Vietnamese Cross of Valor with palm. He received many other decorations as well.
