Clarence Eugene "Gene" Reeves of St. Simons Island, Georgia, passed away on March 7, 2026. Gene was born on November 10, 1939, to the late J. H. (Jake) and Mildred Davis Reeves. Gene graduated in 1957 from Americus High School and attended the University of Georgia. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Gene was a man of many talents. He built a shopping center in Saudi Arabia; at Houston International Airport he built a runway for the Concord airplane and a highway under a runway; raised purebred Brahma cattle in Venezuela; owned construction companies in Albany, Georgia and Midland, Texas and farmed in Sumter County and Lee County in Georgia. At one time he had the world’s largest peanut allotment and was featured in Furrow Magazine.
Gene is survived by his cherished daughters Tina Calhoun of Vina, Alabama, Millie Reeves of Brunswick, Georgia and Mildred and Rebecca Reeves of St. Simons Island, Georgia. Gene maintained a close, loving relationship with his four siblings, all of whom survive: sisters Sue (Wayne) Rose of Seymour, Tennessee and Jo Evelyn (David) Bone of Ellaville, Georgia; brothers Jerry (Susan) Reeves of Abbeville, Alabama and Gary (Beth) Reeves of Americus, Georgia. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kayla Hasty, Brianna Creel, Adam Sandlin and Jake Palmer, three nieces: Renee (Rusty) Moore, Kelly (Kyle) Gailey and Ginny (Brian) Short; five nephews Chip Brewer, Jake (Ellen) Reeves, Alan (Jan), Chad and Trent (Shonya) Bone, many cousins and friends. He remained very close to this childhood friend since second grade, Gary Popwell of Kingsport, Tennessee. He was adamant that his parents name his baby brother Gary. Gene and Gary talked often, and regardless of how bad they felt or how bad their situation was, they always ended up laughing.
In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by his beloved wife Nieves, great niece Haley Bone and sister-in-law Diane Reeves.
