Ms. Betty Jean Newman

Ms. Betty Jean Newman age 88, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2023 from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate the service. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery. Betty Jean Newman was born November 4, 1934 in Americus. She was the daughter of the late William Leon McClung and the late Sara Eugenia Short McClung. Ms. Newman also known as “BJ” was a lot of things to so many people. A loving mother, the best grandmother “Mama Jean,” a wonderful friend. She loved her “Coffee Girls” she met with weekly. Ms. Newman was witty, a social lite and had a knack for decorating. She loved Hallmark movies, absolutely loved Christmas and would often share her home for the holidays. She will be greatly missed but she will live on through the memories shared in her long-blessed life through her children, grandchildren and many friends. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Zane Newman (Lisa) of Americus. Two daughters, Jackie Newman of St. Simons Island and Patsy Kenmore Bailey of Macon. Her brother, Billy McClung of Plains and six grandchildren Ginger Lee, Chris Lee (Jessie), Blake Lee (Tristee), Jason Smith, Cleat Bailey and Shelby Bailey. She also survived by three great grandchildren, Maddie Lee, Campbell Wiggins and Paisley Wiggins. Her nieces, nephews and a special person in her life that became part of her family and like a daughter, Jackie Crisp, along with her daughter Jessica and grandchildren Josh and Olivia Liles. In addition to her parents Ms. Newman was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise McClung Herrington, Grace McClung Kenmore and a brother, Lynwood McClung Sr. Memorial contributions may be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice P.O.
