Bettie Hargrove Mooney

Bettie Hargrove Mooney, age 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 15, 2026. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bettie’s life was defined by her love for her family and her creative spirit.

Born on July 1, 1940, in Dooly County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Cullen Hargrove and the late Elizabeth Hargrove Bagley. She resided in Sumter County calling Americus her home.

Throughout her life, Bettie found joy in the simple pleasures. More than anything, she cherished the time spent laughing and sharing stories with her family and friends. She was especially delighted in sharing stories about her girls.

A woman of quiet and unwavering faith, Bettie was a devoted follower of Christ who found strength and peace in her personal walk with the Lord. She was a member of Morningside United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Penny Payne of Americus and Pamela Payne Bolden of Statesboro; one granddaughter, Ashley Clarisa Bolden; and three great-granddaughters, Charlee Ela Prince, Ellen “Hagin” Prince, and Avery Ada Prince, all of Statesboro. She is also cherished by her special friend, Janice Harris. 

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, GA.
