Mrs. Jennie Hancock, a lifelong Americus resident passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, September 4, 2015. Jennie's parents Tosh and Mary Coptsias and her sister Pat emigrated from the island of Lemnos, Greece through Ellis Island in 1929. Jennie was raised in Americus along with her sister, Pat Coptsias McCurry and brother, Rigas Coptsias. She met her husband, Steve Hancock, as a student at Georgia Southwestern State University. Jennie and Steve made their home in Americus where they raised their sons, Don and Steve Hancock. Jennie worked in the grocery business with her father at Felder Street Grocery and later with her husband at Hancock's Grocery and RIO Thrifty Foods. She was a hard working woman and was dedicated to her family's well being.
