Amy Kathleen Tennant

Amy Kathleen Tennant, 85 of Americus Georgia joined her parents, family, and friends in heaven on July 27, 2026.

Amy was born on February 17, 1941, to Laurence Edwin and Kathleen Doney Tennant of Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. She was a pioneer breaking barriers first with Pratt Whittney working on the Saturn rocket program and then at IBM, where she was a computer programmer, and served in a management position at a time when few women pursued careers in these areas.

Amy volunteered with Make-A-Wish in the Raleigh- Durham North Carolina area. She was also involved with the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network of Raleigh prior to moving to Americus, Georgia in 2014. In Americus, Amy volunteered with Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, Inc. She assisted during COVID in 2021 with the shot clinics held at the fairgrounds in Americus. These are a few organizations she supported with her time in providing to others in the community.

Amy was an avid traveler and had traveled all over the United States and around the world. She visited places ranging from Europe, Russia, Cuba, Easter Islands, and South America to name a few highlights. She loved to play bridge and enjoyed the friendships she made with the group. She was always ready for a local day trip, shopping, and dining with friends. Amy loved animals, especially her cats Checkers and Mike.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence Edwin Tennant and Kathleen Doney Tennant, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is survived by friends and relatives that live near and far.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the Magnolia Manor Chapel with a reception to follow in the Clubhouse at Magnolia Manor. She will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis Tennessee at a later date.
