Mrs. Linda Sutton Monroe

Ms. Linda Sutton Monroe age 74, passed away on Friday January 26, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pastor Warren Alford and Pastor Dennis Shramm will officiate the service. The family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31st at Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Service. Linda Sutton Monroe was born in Albany, GA on September 29, 1949 daughter of the late Eddie Rudolph Sutton and the late Leona “Pink” Herndon Sutton. She was the oldest of four (Debbie, Rudy, and Renee). She was Linda to her Leighton and friends, Mama Linda to the many children she took care of in her home day care. She was “Gee Gee” to Allie, Lexi, Christopher, Olivia, and Jamie. She was Mama to Michelle (Zack), Lisa (Tim), and Ashleigh (John). She wore many hats and titles. She was loved by all who knew her. Linda loved the children she took care of in her daycare. At times she even kept her grandbabies. Some have said, “She was there for me when I needed her the most” and “she would always listen and give the best advice.” She was a second mom to many. Linda also loved her fur babies. Her compassion for animals and love for people was apparent to all who knew her. She enjoyed beach trips and sunshine with her children, grandchildren, friends, and cousins. For Linda, anytime spent with family was time well spent. She looked forward to holidays and gatherings. She also enjoyed cooking and shopping trips with close friends. Linda had the best sense of humor and would make people around her laugh with tears. Her grandchildren love sharing “GeeGee” stories. Linda was preceded in death by the love of her life, Leighton. Their love for one another provided an example for their children of what true love and marriage looks like. Linda and Leighton dated just a few weeks before he was sent to Vietnam. They fell in love writing letters to one another while he was overseas. They were married on September 13, 1969 shortly after his return home. When passing on January 26, 2024, Linda was surrounded by her children, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and sister. Her children stated that they find comfort in knowing their mama is reunited with the love of her life after spending almost 26 years apart. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle Young (Zack) of Albany, Lisa Elmore (Tim) of Dothan, Alabama and Ashleigh Wadsworth (John) of Butler. A sister and brother-in-law, Renee Hicks (Alex) of Vermont and a brother and sister-in-law, Rudy Sutton (Patty) of Arkansas. Linda is also survived by five grandchildren Allie Milanowski, Lexi Young, Olivia Young, Christopher Gilliam and Jamie Elmore. The family has requested memorial contribution be made to the American Heart Association.
