Mr. Tom Skipper "Skip" Radney, age 81, passed away at his residence late Sunday evening, February 2, 2014.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church.  Dr. Lamon Moates  and Rev. Mike Flowers will officiate.  Music will be provided by Rev. Keith Parks.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.  Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Radney, Greg Radney, Wesley Yawn, Ben Knight, Jr., Scott Harrell, Christopher White, Jonathan Knight, and Seth Josiah Radney Bennett.  Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Men's Breakfast Club, the First Baptist Church Sound Committee, Johnny Ragsdale, Ben Kennedy, Ken Oxford, Earl Mainor, Ed Pope, Kelso Gooden, Keith Usry, Marty McDonald, and Dr. Schley Gatewood, Jr.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening February 4, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and other times at the family residence at 106 Cherry Laurel Trail, Americus.

Mr. Radney was born June 20, 1932, in Dothan, AL, son of the late John Raymond Radney, Sr., and Ada Mae Skipper Radney.  In 1994, he retired from NorFolk Southern Railroad as Agent Operator after 43 1/2 years of loyal, dedicated, and injury-free service.  He was a member of First Baptist Church  in Americus for 56 years where he served on the Audio Committee for 40 years and held other places of service in the church.  He was also a member of the Men's Breakfast Club.  In 1994, he joined the Heart of Georgia Walk to Emmaus Community and remained an active member for many years.  He served as registrar for the Heart of Georgia Walk to Emmaus for ten years.  Mr. Radney served in the United States Air Force on Guam during the Korean Conflict. He was a Mason and was raised to Sublime Degree of Master Mason in August, 1955, and received his 50 year pin in August, 2006.

            He and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country and spent time in Europe and the Holy Land.  After moving to Southland Ridge, he enjoyed fishing and many afternoon rides in the golf cart with his much-loved dog, Rambo.

            Mr. Radney is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years,  Myrtlene Knight Radney of Americus;  two daughters, Penny Anne Radney of Lawrenceville, GA, and Terri Lynne Radney Greene and his son-in-law, John Alton Greene of Americus;  a brother, James S. Radney of Sun City, FL; four grandchildren,  Lyndsey Lightner Greene, Radney Nicole Greene Timmerman <Cody>, Abigail Radney Bennett, and Seth Josiah Radney Bennett; one great-granddaughter, Sawyer Jay Timmerman, and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Radney was preceded in death by two sisters; Sara Radney Porter and Dorothy Radney Hardwick, and a brother John Raymond Radney, Jr.  Also surviving is a very special "adopted" daughter, Jackie Lynn Newman.
